Happy Maizery!

Happy Maizery is my new way of greeting; I didn’t relocate to Maizery o, it is just my way of felicitating with this corn season.

My love for corn though… I see each kernel as though they were precious stones. I would have tried to bedazzle a black dress with them if they would shine and not rot. You know, they keep me appreciating GOD because they are an array of order as the obediently cling to their cobs in decent rows and columns, each kernel in its position without disturbing the other. Beyond their physical appearance, these beauties are loaded with health benefits. Every bite, crunch, swallow is a nutritious blessing… Oh Heavens!

Health benefits of corn include controlling diabetes, prevention of heart ailments, lowering hypertension and prevention of neural-tube defects at birth. Corn or maize is one of the most popular cereals in the world and forms the staple food in many countries, including the United States and  many African countries.

The kernels of corn are what hold the majority of corn’s nutrients, and are the most commonly consumed parts of the vegetable. The kernels can come in multiple colors, depending on where the corn is grown and what species or variety they happen to be. Another genetic variant, called sweetcorn, has more sugar and less starch in the nutritive material.

Corn not only provides the necessary calories for healthy, daily metabolism, but is also a rich source of vitamins A, B, E and many minerals. Its high fiber content ensures that it plays a significant role in the prevention of digestive ailments like constipation and hemorrhoids as well as colorectal cancer.

That’s it for today, more on corn’s health benefits coming soon…
